I am fortunate to have a closet filled to the brim with beautiful clothing, but I haven’t been making enough of an effort to wear my pieces. I fall in the rut of wearing the same things over and over in an effort to *save* some of my clothing for special or specific occasions. My ‘mom uniform’ is what I reach for daily, and it usually consists of an athletic dress or a casual cotton dress (the same ones over and over) that I can throw on and go, and not worry much if it gets stained or dirty. To me, my reasoning makes sense, as I’d rather not get my nicer clothes stained, but it also feels like so many great pieces are sitting there unworn. Hence, I’m putting in the effort to really try to wear my pieces more often.

I was reminded of exactly why I love wearing something that makes me feel good when I put on this dress from a new-to-me brand, Alivia. This cotton dress has the most flattering smocked waist and peek-a-boo back, and features a subtle but gorgeous print of lemon trees in chinoiserie pots. The print is small (which I love), but when you get up close, you can see just how beautiful and detailed it is. (Use the code ALEXANDRA20 for 20% off your order!)
What makes this dress even more special is that Alivia‘s clothing features artwork designed by disabled artisans, and that the brand gives back 10% from every sale to the organization that supports these artisans. It made me feel so good to order from a brand that gives back and offers something so unique!

I paired the dress with the bag I’ve been wearing over and over this summer by J. McLaughlin, and these affordable cork wedges (under $35!).

Very simply put, I felt happy wearing this dress! Isn’t that what getting dressed should be all about?
