Favorite Dog Friendly Restaurants in Charleston

Charleston is known to be a dog-friendly city, and it’s not hard to see why – we have dog-friendly beaches, beautiful parks, and a mild climate that allows for lots of time spent outdoors with your furry friend!

There are many restaurants in the Charleston area that allow pets on their outdoor patios or decks, however, we have found that not all that have outdoor spaces allow you to bring your dog. I thought it would be helpful to compile a list of our favorite dining spots to bring Beau:

Vintage Coffee Cafe (Mt. Pleasant) 219 Simmons Street, Mt. Pleasant

Vintage Coffee Cafe is a quaint coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch. You cannot go wrong with almost anything they offer – my favorite are the açaí bowls! They have lots of outdoor seating, but they do get crowded on the weekends during brunch hours, as a heads up! (breakfast/lunch)

Flying Biscuit Cafe (Mt. Pleasant)794 Coleman Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant

Serving all-day breakfast, you can’t go wrong with the Flying Biscuit for weekend brunch! Extensive menu options, and not just biscuits … they also offer avocado toast, French toast, and omelettes! Try the grits (and of course, the biscuits!) They have a cute outdoor patio with colorful tables and umbrellas! (breakfast/lunch/dinner)

Coastal Crust (Mt. Pleasant)219 Simmons Street, Mt. Pleasant

Situated directly behind Vintage Coffee Cafe is this rustic and quaint pizzeria that serves absolutely delicious wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza! Their menu is unique and has something for everyone. This restaurant is very kid and dog-friendly, and features mostly outdoor seating, as well as a vintage truck-turned-playset & slide for kids! (lunch/dinner)

Boxcar Betty’s (Mt. Pleasant) – 1701 Shoremeade Rd, Suite 610, Mt. Pleasant

Boxcar Betty’s has four locations in Charleston, but we have only had lunch and brought Beau to their Mt. Pleasant location. Their chicken sandwiches rival Chic-fil-A’s (okay, they come close), and their menu features locally-sourced ingredients, and antibiotic and cage-free chicken. Their Mt. Pleasant location has an outdoor patio with lots of seating, and they welcome pets! (lunch/dinner)

Sesame Burgers (Mt. Pleasant)675 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, Mt. Pleasant

Sesame is sure to please any burger lover – this restaurant offers a build-your-own burger with a vast (and interesting) list of options for toppings and condiments. They also offer many gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Try their sweet potato fries! Though this restaurant is a local chain, we’ve only brought Beau to their Mt. Pleasant location, and they are always very welcoming on their outdoor patio! (lunch/dinner)

Lewis Barbecue (Downtown) – 464 N. Nassau Street, Charleston

Highly-acclaimed barbecue eatery in an industrial setting downtown. Bring your furry friend to their outdoor patio! (lunch/dinner)

Cantina 76 (Mt. Pleasant and Kiawah) – 819 Coleman Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant and 219 Farm Lake View Road, Kiawah

A tex-mex eatery with two locations in Charleston – Kiawah Island at Freshfields Village and Mt. Pleasant on Coleman Boulevard. Both have great atmospheres with plenty of outdoor seating! Their menu features hand-crafted margaritas… try the Strawberry Basil (my all-time favorite!) and the skinny Cantina Margarita! (lunch/dinner)

Fat Hen / The Coop (Johns Island) – 3140 Maybank Highway, Johns Island

The Fat Hen is one of our favorite restaurants on Johns Island, and when we discovered their outdoor space, The Coop, allowed pets, we haven’t been without Beau since! The atmosphere is always great and Beau always receives a warm welcome! They have high-top and picnic tables, along with bar seating, and offer a full service menu. Outdoor heaters for cooler months and string lights complete the space! (weekend brunch/dinner)

39 Rue De Jean (Downtown) – 39 John Street, Charleston

A long-time favorite of ours, this french brasserie is a downtown Charleston staple. They allow pets on their outdoor terrace, and serve so many delicious options – the Brasserie Burger is my favorite! (weekend brunch/lunch/dinner)

This is definitely not a comprehensive list (just our favorites!), and there are many I’m sure that I’ve missed! If you have any other recommendations, leave them in the comments below!
