A new season equals new activities to enjoy around Charleston! Whether you’re local or in town visiting, here are some ideas for fun things to do in the Autumn months!
Explore Downtown Charleston
The historic district of Charleston is beautiful year-round, but I’ve always loved exploring the streets South of Broad in the fall. The weather is crisp with little to no humidity (thankfully), and the lighting is always especially pretty this time of year!
Fall Tours with the Preservation Society
Take your walk downtown a step further by doing a tour with the Preservation Society! Their Fall Piazza and Garden Tours are the perfect way to get a behind-the-gates look at beautiful historic residences in the South of Broad/historic district of downtown. Michael and I are planning to do one of these in November!
Ghost Tour in Downtown Charleston
There’s not a better time of year for taking a Ghost Tour in historic downtown Charleston! Tour Charleston offers a 90-minute Ghost Tour that recounts hauntings and supernatural events from their best-selling book The Ghosts of Charleston. I used to live downtown on Cumberland street, and always saw these tours in action, but never did one myself! It’s on my list.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin season is the best season! There are pumpkin patches all around town, but here are a few stand-out ones:
The pumpkin patch at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant is one of the largest fall festivals in South Carolina, complete with a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides, and a petting zoo.
Legare Farms on Johns Island hosts visitors on weekends in October for their fall festival, which includes a pumpkin patch, hay rides, horse rides, a scarecrow factory, and gem mines! Great for little ones.
The Pumpkin Patch at Mistletoe Lane in Summerville has pumpkins galore, along with mums and hay bales – a great spot to visit if you’re looking to decorate your front entry!
Dreaming Farms on James Island offers pumpkins, fall mums and plants, a gift shop, and live music on the weekends!
Candle Making Workshop at Candlefish
Autumn = cozy nights at home = candles! Candlefish is a local Charleston boutique located on King Street that offers candle-making workshops. BYOB, and learn the ins-and-outs of candle making during this workshop. You’ll take away two of your own custom-made candles! Perfect for groups.
Enjoy a Wine Stroll & Garden Tour at Middleton Place
Fall is the perfect time to do a wine stroll at Middleton Place! Wine plus strolling through a garden sounds like the perfect evening to me! A different garden is featured each week, and Middleton Place is sure not to disappoint. A National Historic Landmark, Middleton Place offers 65 acres of America’s oldest landscaped gardens. There is a museum, stable yards, restaurant, and an inn onsite to explore, as well.
Take your Pup to the Beach
The fall months are such a great time to take your dog to the beach! Cooler weather and less humidity mean pups are happier, and many beaches offer off-leash hours this time of year. Here is a great post that shares off-leash hours on our beaches! I’ve been wanting to take Beau on a sunrise walk on Isle of Palms – hoping to do this soon!
There are endless things to do this time of year, these are just a few! Enjoy these beautiful months in the Lowcountry!
